Get ready to push your limits on The Great East Clare Hill Challenge, taking place on Saturday, 4th July 2026. This is not for the faint-hearted – a demanding 30KM hill hike through rugged terrain, including bogland, that will test your endurance and reward you with some of the most breathtaking views in East Clare.
Start time: 8:00 AM sharp at Two Mile Gate, Killaloe, where toilet facilities will be available.
You’ll ascend to the summit of Moylussa (532M), traverse the scenic Slieve Bearnagh, and pass by the magical Enchanted Lake. After a well-earned break in Broadford village (with access to a shop, café, and toilets), the second leg begins – a challenging hike up Hurdlestown and across more boggy terrain, leading to the final summit at the iconic 12 O’Clock Hills (309M). The hike concludes at Belvoir car park.
⚠️ Important requirements:
Hiking boots are mandatory – runners/trainers are strictly not permitted due to bogland sections.
A good level of fitness is essential – this is a strenuous 30KM hike that will take approximately 8 hours to complete.
Are you ready to take on the challenge? Lace up your hiking boots and join us for an unforgettable day of adventure in the hills of East Clare!
Facilities: There is a public toilet available at the registration point. Please note, this will be the last toilet you will encounter until Broadford.
Mandatory Gear: For your safety, boots with ankle support are mandatory for all hikers.
Safety Notice: Anyone struggling with the initial Moylussa hill climb will not be permitted to continue. You may address this during registration confirmation.
We will commence the challenge promptly at 8:00 AM, so please ensure you arrive early to complete the registration process and be ready for the start.
